Summer Shapiro is a physical storyteller, actor, and director whose work blurs lines between comedy, movement, and emotional honesty. She began her career creating original comedic physical theater in San Francisco and New York, collaborating with artists such as John Gilkey of Cirque du Soleil and Peter Musante of Blue Man Group—mentors who helped shape her expressive, body-centered approach to performance.
Her movement-driven storytelling caught the eye of musicians and filmmakers, leading her to co-create narrative concepts for music videos. Summer’s on-screen work includes Jeff Desom’s (of Everything Everywhere All At Once) The Key, shot in Luxembourg for the pianist and composer Hauschka (of All Quiet On The Western Front), as well as her appearance in the iconic music video for Sara Bareilles’ Brave, directed by Rashida Jones.
After stepping away from her craft following her mother’s passing in 2013, Summer has since returned with a renewed sense of purpose. Her directorial debut, November Moon—a short film made in collaboration with pianist Karel Barnoski—marks her re-entry into filmmaking and her ongoing evolution as a multidisciplinary artist.
Across all mediums—stage, screen, classrooms, coaching circles, and transformative group experiences—Summer creates work designed to uplift, disarm, and reconnect us. She is devoted to helping people feel confident and joyful in their authentic expression, and she continues to develop stories, workshops, and performances that invite audiences to loosen their grip on perfection, open to vulnerability, and rediscover the profound mystery, and humor, of being alive.
